Mayu is an actor and theatre creator who loves laughing until it hurts and enjoys cooking for and eating with people she loves.
She grew up in Kanagawa, Japan, but has been based in Sydney, Australia for the past 5 years. She embarked on a BA at University of NSW, majoring in Theatre Performance and Film Studies, and she also acquired an easy-going spirit. By training and performing with PACT Centre for Emerging Artist under Cat Jones and Julie Vulcan, she found her specific interest in exploring performance through movement and collaborative creation in live interactive art. After receiving extensive training with the SITI Company, lead by the work of Anne Bogart and Tadashi Suzuki, she was inspired to move to NYC. She is currently a student of the Atlantic Theatre Company’s conservatory program and a founding member of the international theatre ensemble, Elephant in the Room.
Traveling has been a big part of her life. She enjoys unexpected encounters with people, discovering their world and being part of it. Therefore New York has been the most exciting place for her to experience an explosion of cultures and people.
Her favorite word is Ichi-go Ichi-e, One time, One meeting.
